ICT
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) can impact student learning when teachers
are digitally literate and understand how to integrate it into curriculum.
The key roles or functions of the ICT department are:
i. maintainer—to maintain and support all computer and network hardware and software;
ii. interpreter—interpret the information access needs as expressed by patrons and staff to create useful software application programs for their use;
iii. trainer—play a key role in training staff to effectively use procured
applications/technology;
iv. enabler—provide staff with the technical background that enables them to translate the challenges to information access they see firsthand into insightful and meaningful suggestions;
v. liaison—to exploit the technical expertise to effectively communicate the institution’s requirements to the organization technical support unit; and
vi. Advisor—participate in the strategic planning done by academic units for the incorporation of electronic technologies into instruction and innovation.
